Ironically, all throughout these years, I haven´t made any mention of it, like telling my story and sharing some of the pictures I took that day.
I didn´t think that it would matter since I wasn´t the only one who saw it happen, but also thousands or even millions of people saw it, just like I did.
But it dawned on me that the people who saw that and were present at the scene were only a handful compared to the population of the City of New York, not to mention the whole country.
So it was a few people indeed, and I was one of them.
But what´s the point if I have nothing to prove it, I thought.
Who would believe me?
The answer would be not many, as usual.
Do I really need to convince everyone? What for?
I somehow feel compelled to tell and share my story, but I now realize that I don´t have to go through all the details of what I saw and heard that day because many of those around me have seen it like me and have shown and told the world a better story than mine.
Bottom line, I was there in the scene.
I was on the train on the Manhattan Bridge across the Hudson River overlooking the World Trade Center that morning. As the train got stuck momentarily, I started to count the floors of the buildings from the bottom up. I was almost finished when the train took off.
By the time that I got to my destination, the TV was on, and one of the planes had already struck the first building. Then, as we were watching the television, the other plane struck the second building.
I rushed and took the same train back home. By the time the train stopped in Manhattan, near the scene, I got off and watched while the buildings were still falling.
The police pushed me away from the scene and told me to run; there were many casualties at the scene after I left. I wonder what happened to that female cop who told me to leave.
I didn´t think much about those pictures because they were too far away from the scene.
Just recently, 25 years later, I went through those pictures; as far away from the scene as they are, they reminded me that I am part of that handful of people who first witnessed and saw it all happen.
I mourned for the dead that day and am here to tell their relatives that I know how they feel; I was there and have recently lost my mother, it´s a tough feeling.
Blessed are those who believe and wait for the resurrection.
Jesus is the Lord.
There is hope. Wow, how awesome is that.
